Veeral Rathod '01: “Appreciation for diversity helped me build my company.”Q: Why did you join Alpha Chi Rho?

A: The chapter had a very diverse and accomplished membership. I felt like everyone had an individual story, personality, and interests. Still, the brothers got along very well and had a great time.

Q: What’s your favorite memory from your time in the chapter?

A: Our senior class formal was a great time. It was a wonderful evening remembering and celebrating four great years together, and wishing everyone success for the next phase of life.

Q: Do you still keep in touch with any of your brothers?

“Our chapter was comprised of brothers from different cities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and ethnicities. Everyone had different educational pursuit and career ambitions. This appreciation for diversity and people has really helped me build my company.”

A: Yes. I’m now living in Dallas, so I see a few brothers here. I try my best to look up brothers when I travel to different cities, but admittedly, should do a much better job.

Q: Tell us about J. Hilburn and your role as CEO.

A: I co-founded J.Hilburn in 2007 inspired by the realization that personalization would drive the future of apparel and fashion. Our unique direct-to-consumer enables us to deliver premium tailored clothing at an unmatched value. We currently have a team of 2500+ Personal Stylists around the country that deliver a high-touch and high-tech experience for today’s busy professional.

As CEO & Co-Founder, my primary responsibilities are driving our brand strategy and ensuring we execute well. I enjoy the creative side of our design and styling as much as I enjoy sales and marketing.

We currently have 90 employees at our corporate office in Dallas, and 2500 Personal Stylists in the field. I’ve really enjoyed meeting lots of people and leading a brand that driving innovation in design, supply chain and consumer experience.

Q: How did your time in Alpha Chi Rho help to prepare you for that role?

A: The fraternity experience helped me realize the importance of engaging people. Our chapter was comprised of brothers from different cities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and ethnicities. Everyone had different educational pursuit and career ambitions. This appreciation for diversity and people has really helped me build my company.

Q: What else have you been up to since graduation?

A: In addition to my professional endeavors, I have an amazing wife and two charming daughters. I love every moment with them. I enjoy travel and dabble in auto racing.

Q: What would you say is your biggest accomplishment?

A: J.Hilburn has created a flexible, career opportunity for over 2500 people. Our Stylists have shared stories with me about paying for their children’s education, saving their mortgage or exiting a corporate job to pursue a career that they love—and that offers them the personal flexibility of being your own boss.

Q: What advice would you give to future generations of Alpha Chi Rho members?

A: Take advantage of your time in the fraternity. Get to know your pledge class and everyone else. Build real relationships, not just social ones. And be intentional to stay in touch after graduation (advice I need to follow myself!)
